This has been a crazy year with a lot of changes. One of the biggest changes came when my daughter turned 18 and got her own apartment. My stepsons instantly took over her room, but once they left for the summer the nest was empty. That left us with an extra, unused bedroom that was just begging to be turned into my very own home office.
I have blogged and maintained a YouTube channel for many years now, but it has been difficult to maintain in this small house where I have to store my equipment in the basement or in a closet and then drag it out every time I wanted to photograph or record something. Having my own space where I can create has long been a dream of mine.
I thought I would be really lonely when my daughter moved out. I had many friends who were even checking on me to make sure I was ok. Surprisingly, it was a much easier transition than I was expecting! I like to think God makes teenagers jerks so it’s easier to let them go into the world. Having an office space doesn’t hurt, either.
The transformation from bedroom into office started with a fresh coat of paint. I used Behr’s Close Knit – which is the same light gray I have in several other rooms of the house. It is light and neutral, but adds a bit more coziness than a stark white.
This built in bookshelf is the perfect spot to display my planners, and keep my Alexa and odds and ends. I love these hourglasses from Erin Condren. Sure, they are cute, but since they come in increments of 10, 20, and 30 minutes they are also very functional for me as I transition into time blocking.
I am also loving this Erin Condren Wall Organization Center. It is a magnetic white board with interchangeable and customizable inserts. I have both the monthly schedule insert, for keeping track of deadlines and dates, and the chore chart and checklist insert, customized so I can keep track of tasks associated with my blog, YouTube, podcast, etc. I like that I can use the same Erin Condren Wet Erase Markers that I use on my EC covers and dashboards. I also got the cork strip, key knob holder, and pencil cup accessories to make the center even more versatile.
My desk is in the middle of the room so its easy for me to set up my camera tripod and lights without having to rearrange. I also get nice natural light from the windows. I love that I can keep my podcast mic attached to the desk and just swing it out of the way when I am not recording.
Along the wall I have a cart with various craft and planner supplies, another cart with my Silhouette Portrait, printer and typewriter, and a cube shelf that houses my punches, papers and odds and ends. A TV is mounted above this shelf on the wall.
It has been so nice to have my own space to be creative! I’m excited to bring more consistent content now that my office is all set up. If you think some of these accessories would help you organize your situation, use my referral code for $10 off your first Erin Condren purchase!
