Parenting teenagers is not for the faint of heart.

My daughter is 14 years old and a freshman in high school. She is an excellent student, creative, generous, and fiercely individual. I have so much respect for the fact that she marches to the beat of her own drum, even with all the pressures of high school.

If I had this parenting journey to do over again, I would change so many things. When my daughter was young I was determined that she would decide her beliefs for herself. I grew up in a legalistic home where religion was crammed down my throat, and I wanted nothing to do with it as an adult. When I got saved about 6 years ago we started going to church regularly, but there wasn’t a strong youth program to put my daughter in.

So, at 14 years old she is just learning the books of the Bible. She doesn’t know the familiar Bible verses that most of us can spout off. I feel like I am playing catch up trying to “cram” things into her while I still can. There is a battle going on for the hearts of our children, and I sent mine into the world unprepared.

When I was asked to review the NIV Bible for Teen Girls, it seemed like a perfect fit. It is designed for girls ages 13-18, and features daily readings from people my daughter is excited about, like Christine Caine and Bethany Hamilton. It highlights the women of the Bible, and even has a concordance in the back.

When it came in the mail I opened it and sat it on the table to see if she would notice. When she got home from school she sat down to have a snack and said, “Is this for me??”

She has been devouring it ever since. Yesterday I asked her for some feedback so I could sit down and write this post and she said, “Mom, make sure you say that it is my most favorite book I have ever gotten!”

I am so excited that I am able to present the Bible to her in a way that is exciting to her, and applies to the issues she is dealing with at her stage in life. The most important ministry we are given as parents is raising up a generation of Godly kids who are going to change the world. If you have a teenage girl in your life, put this Bible in her hands! You can buy a copy here, or try your luck because I am giving a copy away to one of my readers! Enter in the widget below. I would love to hear who you would like to give the Bible to!
