Recently my oldest grandson started school. I’m so proud of that little guy, but I miss him while he is at school all day! I have been intentionally carving out a special activity for us to do together every week to spend some quality time together. This week his requests were ice cream floats and a movie.
Fall Ice Cream Floats
Ice cream floats seem like a summer treat, but since we are experiencing cool temperatures and changing leaves, I decided to give them a fall twist. I experimented with some festive variations, and they turned out to be a hit. Here are three of our favorite fall-inspired ice cream floats and how to make them:

Caramel Apple Float
Ingredients:
- Vanilla ice cream
- 1/2 C Apple juice
- 1/2 C Sprite
- Whipped cream
- Caramel drizzle
How to Make:
Drizzle caramel syrup in glass. Add ice cream. Pour over apple juice and sprite. Garnish with whipped cream and an apple slice.

Pumpkin Orange Float
Ingredients:
- Vanilla or citrus-flavored ice cream
- Orange soda (Orange Pop)
- Whipped Cream
- Orange frosting or syrup
How to Make:
Drizzle a glass with orange frosting or syrup. Add ice cream. Pour over orange pop. Garnish with whipped topping.

Marshmallow Chocolate Float
Ingredients:
- Vanilla ice cream
- Dr. Pepper
- Chocolate syrup
- Whipped cream
- Marshmallow foam or marshmallow topping
- Toasted marshmallow garnish
How to Make:
Add marshmallow foam to bottom of glass. Drizzle glass with chocolate syrup. Add vanilla ice cream, then pour Dr. Pepper over the top. Garnish with whipped cream and a toasted marshmallow.
While we enjoyed our floats we were able to watch a screening of the new movie Light of The World. This is an animated feature that opens in theatres September 5, 2025. This movie is a 2D, hand-drawn animation that will remind you of movies you saw in the 90’s! Director Tom Bancroft was a Disney animator who worked on The Lion King, Mulan, and Beauty and the Beast.

This movie shares the story of Jesus’ ministry, death, and resurrection through the eyes of John, who is just a young man. My grandson is almost 5, and some of it went over his head, but what excited me is how many questions he asked as we watched the movie. There are so many voices competing for our childrens’ attention, it felt good to be able to share a movie with him that not only entertained, but shared such a valuable message. If this movie sounds interesting to you, make sure you check it out in theaters! Supporting these types of films with ticket sales and attendance is the best way to assure they keep making them.
