Chalk Paint Quote PumpkinsI have really had the best of intentions for fall decorations, but this season is already getting away from me before it has hardly begun. We are moving in a month, and I don’t want to buy any new holiday decor just to move it. But with an entire month left, I want to do SOME decorating. These chalk paint quote pumpkins were the perfect solution. Its a fun decoration to put by the door, and can be thrown away when we move.

Its still a little early in the season for pumpkins around here, so the big, decorative pumpkins in the store were a bit more than I wanted to spend for some cheap, easy decor. But they had pie pumpkins for $1.50 each! Pie pumpkins are smaller, sweeter versions of the larger decorative pumpkins, but they work great for decor, too.

Start by wrapping the stem of your pumpkin in masking tape or washi tape, unless you want the stem to be the same color as the pumpkin. Maybe you are a neater painter than me and can skip this step! Use a foam brush to lightly and even paint the pumpkin with chalk paint. Let it dry thoroughly, then add more coats as needed. I find that 2 usually does the trick!

Let the pumpkin dry really thoroughly, then move on over to your Silhouette Design Studio software. If you don’t have a Silhouette machine, don’t let it scare you off from trying this project. You can purchase vinyl letter stickers in a variety of colors and styles.

The Silhouette store has a ton of cute Halloween fonts you can use, if that is the look you are going for.

I opted for more of a block-letter look, so I used the font “Futura” in all caps.

You could do a design, a quote … really anything you want. But keep in mind that you will be working with the curvature of the pumpkin when applying the stickers.

I opted for some short Halloween phrases.

If you are using a Silhouette machine, cut your pieces out, weed them, and adhere transfer paper. You could skip the transfer paper and apply the vinyl piece by piece, too. I used the dark pink Silhouette brand vinyl for this project.

I think these turned out so cute! If you are looking for some cheap, easy Halloween decor, give these chalk paint quote pumpkins a try.
