It’s hard to believe that January is almost over, but after this snowy, cold month, I am not complaining. I like to keep my decor on the minimalist side, but I wanted to incorporate a little Valentines Day into my mantle decor.
We found some old windows in our garage, and I love the chippy, streaky paint on them, so I incorporated one into my mantle decor for Christmas, and decided to leave it there for Valentine’s Day, too. I picked up the jade, frosted bottle at Michael’s, because I loved the color. I shopped the house and added the bird, gold H, and milk bottle to the right. I felt like it still needed a little something else, maybe some softness?
I recently got myself a Silhouette Cameo machine, but I hadn’t taken the time to learn how to use it. I figured this was as good of an occasion as any, so I gave it a try! I’m going to write a little more in-depth about the Cameo in an upcoming post, but there is a Silhouette store with thousands of designs – most of which you can purchase for personal use for only 99¢. I downloaded a 3D flower design, and a “love” banner.
I wanted to stick with non-traditional colors for a simple Valentine mantle, so I chose some random card stock from my stash, and within about 5 minutes I had these flowers. Plus a few errant minutes spent accidentally hot-gluing my fingers to the desk. I Scotch-taped them to a couple of pens (in my defense, it was pretty late. Pens seemed logical), and plunked them in this clay vase my daughter made me in her art class. Cute, right? And a little touch of softness.
I love pennants, but I didn’t want this love banner to be the main focal point, so I cut it small enough to drape over the window. This project was even easier, because I just used some twine to string it together.
I still wanted to add one more piece, and when I came across this distressed frame at Michael’s, I knew I had found it. I debated on what to put in it, and finally just designed my own print.
I am sharing this printable so you can download and print your own! Click here, or on the image above.
I would recommend printing it on card stock, and you will need to trim down the edges to fit in an 8×10 frame, like the one pictured.
I really love how this vignette turned out. It adds some softness and cheer to the mantle, without being busy or cluttered. Do you ever struggle to balance simplicity and style?
