Summer is one of my favorite seasons, but it is insanely busy. I am a major introvert so self-care is very important to my mental well-being. But when I am cooking 3 meals a day from scratch, trying to keep the house clean, entertaining children, and trying to run two businesses and work a part-time job – well, self-care goes on the back burner.
I decided enough was enough and created a habit tracker as a reminder to do some of those simple things to take care of myself. Taking my vitamins, flossing my teeth, and doing a face mask seem like mundane tasks, but they are part of my self-care routine. I have posted before about my supplements routine, and why it is so important to me to take care of myself that way. When I was given the opportunity to try Restore – a gut health product that ISN’T a probiotic, I jumped at the chance.
Some of you might recall that I had a severely infected tooth about 18 months ago. The oral surgeon couldn’t get me in for over two months, so I was on heavy antibiotics and narcotic pain killers the entire time! It was horrible because I was incapacitated both from the pain and the meds, but the worst part is that they completely destroyed my gut health.
Gut health is not a topic I ever expected to be interested in. It reminds me of my grandma describing her bodily functions to anyone who will listen. But it’s something I took for granted until I lost it.
Ever since I was on all that medication I have struggled with severe reflux, and a touchy stomach. I’ve had limited success controlling it with diet, but I’ve been popping reflux meds like candy. I have always been a faithful probiotic user, so when Restore sent me their product I was curious to try it.
They sent me a large bottle, a travel-size bottle and a sinus spray. I’ve been using these for about a month now, and it’s such an interesting product I thought I would share my review with you.
First of all, I scratched my head a little bit over the sinus spray. Who would intentionally squirt something up their nose every morning? But it turns out that me and my allergies absolutely love this stuff. It helps to flush your sinuses, and keep them hydrated which are two very good things if you have seasonal allergies. I will definitely be adding this into my long-term morning routine.
The Restore gut health product itself is actually not a probiotic, it is a liquid that encourages your gut to produce its own bacteria. It is a “carbon rich, alkaline liquid, with lignite derived trace organics and essential trace amino acids.” And what the heck is lignite? “Lignite comes from decomposed prehistoric matter. As plants decompose, they first form peat, which then turns into humate, then lignite, then leonardite and finally to coal. All of these are rich in carbon.” You can read more about it on Restore’s web site. Make sure to watch the video – it’s very interesting!
After trying Restore for about a month I am finally in a good routine. At first it was hard for me to remember the 3 times daily dose. I was a little concerned about how the liquid would taste, but it is pretty much tasteless! I found it a little messy to try to pour the big bottle into a teaspoon, so I would highly recommend getting the pump if you order it.
My chiropractor told me that it can take 6 months to a year to see much of a change from probiotics, so I wasn’t expecting a huge change over night from Restore, but I did notice clearer skin and more mental clarity. I’m excited to see how I feel as I continue to use the product.
