The other day one of my salon clients told me, “You put pictures of your planners on Instagram like most people put pictures of their kids!”
It’s true, I’ve never met a planner I didn’t like. Or a an art or craft project. Recently I have started a new venture that perfectly aligns those two worlds.
About 10 years ago I opened an Etsy shop to sell the cards and crocheted items I was making. Etsy was still fairly new, and you could get views on your items just by listing them at strategic times. Eventually Etsy grew, and less and less people viewed the items for sale. That is when artists turned to social media and blogs to start building a community, and driving traffic to their Etsy store.
And that my friends, was the rather primitive birth of this blog. That was before everyone and their cousin had a blog, and definitely before anyone was making big bucks off of them. You were guaranteed views just by hitting publish, which in turn brought views to the Etsy shop you were promoting. In this day and age where I spend more time promoting my blog than I do writing or updating it, I chuckle a bit when I think back to the good old days.
I got myself a Silhouette cutting machine for Christmas this year, and have made all kinds of fun paper crafts, and even some vinyl projects. I decided to try my hand at making some planner stickers, and let me tell you that first attempt was an epic fail. As were many, many attempts after that. There is a definite learning curve to the machine! But once I got the hang of it, I discovered that I really enjoy the process of designing and creating stickers. After making a few custom requested orders for people, I decided maybe it was time to re-open my Etsy shop and give it a go.
I have had a lot going on in my life lately, so when I gave myself a goal of opening by June 1 it seemed impossible, but I did it! I only have a couple of things listed so far, but it felt good just to get it open. I’m still experimenting a bit with different layouts and styles, but for now I will be listing a monthly kit, and adding extras as I have time.
As I start to fill up my shop, I want to offer a special to my readers, because after all, you have been my biggest cheerleaders for a long time now. Use the code BR2008 for 20% off of any purchase over $10. Since I don’t have much in my shop right now, this code won’t expire til July 31, 2016.
If you have any ideas or requests for planner stickers, I would love to hear them!
