I’ve always had pretty good skin. And then I turned 35. Suddenly I had dry spots, and TEXTURE. Where did these pores come from?? I have been a cosmetologist for almost 20 years, so I have always used decent products on my skin, but my routine was pretty much just washing my makeup off at night. Any additional products I tried made my super-sensitive skin freak out.
I’ve been using Young Living essential oils for two years now, and really love some of their personal care items like toothpaste and deodorant, so recently I decided to give the skincare a whirl. There were a couple of products that were just so-so for me, but for the most part, wow! I noticed a change in my skin almost instantly, and will NOT be without some of these products again.
I’m going to go through my daily routine, and tell you a little bit about each product. In the mornings I start with Satin Facial Scrub Mint. Yes, that’s the actual name. Why it’s not Mint Satin Facial Scrub ranks up there with what happened to Hoffa. This is a water-based exfoliant that helps to minimize pores, and rejuvenate dull skin. I have NEVER had issues with pores until I turned 35, but holy cow I hate them. They make it difficult to get a flawless foundation finish, without caking so much on it looks like a mortician put you together, and there isn’t a whole lot you can do to shrink them. Throw in a few clogged pores and your face looks like the surface of the moon. After a couple of weeks of using this scrub, the change in the smoothness of my face is visible! I get my hands wet, and then emulsify a little of this scrub into them, and rub it on my face in circular motions. Upwards and outwards, avoiding really delicate areas around the eyes. Not only does this scrub help improve the texture of my skin WITHOUT plastic microbeads (they are HORRIBLE for the environment), the refreshing mint helps to wake me up. This tube is a little smaller than I was expecting so I wish I would have ordered two because this is something I never want to run out of.
After I rinse the scrub, I wash my face with the ART Foaming Cleanser. This is a nice, light cleanser. It’s one of the products I am not bowled over by, but it works great for a light morning cleanse, so I will be repurchasing. I also like to save the bottle when it’s gone so I can make my own foaming concoctions.
Next I use the ART Toner. If you don’t use a toner, you should! It helps deep clean your pores, as well as normalizing the skin’s pH after cleansing. The ART toner is hands down the best I have ever used – my holy grail toner if you will.
Next is a new-to-me product, Sheerlumé. You can use this under moisturizer or in place of, depending on your preference. This was a splurge for me, but of course I always fall in love with the most expensive products. Sheerlumé is a brightening cream that brightens dull skin, and helps to even tone. I love, LOVE this stuff! I already complained about my skin’s texture, but I also have tons of freckles and hyper pigmentation that look splotchy and uneven. I have used this for a few weeks now, and my skin feels absolutely amazing after applying this. I can already see visible improvements in the tone and texture of my skin.
Sometimes I just let it fly at Sheerlumé, and sometimes I apply a moisturizer on top. At night, I definitely apply moisturizer. During cooler months I was loving the Sandalwood moisture cream. Now that warmer temps and humidity have hit, I am finding this a little heavy. I DO however, still swipe a little on my hands at night. This is a total luxury for my gnarly hairstylist hands, and makes them feel like silk!
For seasons when the Sandalwood Moisturizer is too heavy, I am loving the ART moisturizer. This is definitely light, but has an awesome finish. Not greasy, not sticky, just smooth. And it smells yummy.
At night, I omit the scrub and instead of the ART cleanser, I use the Orange Blossom Cleanser. This can be a little too much for my face in the dryer months, but it’s perfect for my at-night cleanser right now, and removes every last trace of my makeup. My daughter loves this one, too!
I definitely think these products stack up to department store lines I have used over the years, and I love that they are natural and non-toxic. Your skin is your largest organ, and I recently read that you can absorb up to 5 pounds of toxins via your skin per year! Young Living is a whole lot more than essential oils, so be sure to check the skin care line out whether you are into oils or not. There are still several products I haven’t tried yet, and if they are in the same league as the products I am already using, I can’t wait!
