For someone who likes vacuuming so much, mopping is not my favorite day. Probably because I have a lot of hard wood floors that are in desperate need of refinishing and they are a pain in the drain to mop.
I religiously mop my vinyl floors weekly. I use Thieves cleaner and a mop, or if I really want to get it clean paper towels. Using a mop is obviously faster and easier, but sometimes I feel like it pushes stuff into the corners. Use your judgement.
For the wood floors … use VERY little liquid of any sort. Every few months I like to polish them with Rejuvenate. This stuff works GREAT to shine them back up, and you only have to stay off the floor for an hour. It’s the best thing I have found until the floors get refinished.
For regular cleaning I use this mop and a spray bottle of water and vinegar. Sometimes, yes, I use a little Thieves cleaner. DAMP is the operative word here, and less is more when you are spraying the floor. Getting it too wet is a great way to ruin your floor. If there is a spot that needs heavier cleaning, do it by hand.
If you have laminate, less is more on the water situation as well.
I know a lot of people like steam mops. I had one for a while, and I did like it, but I felt like it pushed the dirt into the corners, and it quit working less than a year later. I didn’t think it was worth what I spent on it.
Don’t forget those areas like entryways, etc. Not that I ever forget to do mine. *nose grows*
So, it’s not the most glamorous chore of the week, but get to mopping!
