Working from home can be a double-edged sword. You control how you spend your time, yet you never seem to have enough time to get it all done. I have struggled with productivity and time-management since I shifted from full-time work outside of the home, to working from home 75% of the time. Recently I have implemented a morning routine that has revolutionized my work at home productivity! Today I am going to share a few tips on my morning routine that you can customize for your own schedule.
Get Up Early
Most people who work from home can set their own schedule and work at their own pace. It can be extremely tempting to hit snooze a few times. My husband works overnights and goes to bed right as I am getting up. It can be extremely tempting to sleep in, but nothing kills my productivity like skipping my morning routine and going back to sleep. I force myself to get up early, complete my morning routine, and check off my to-do list. Once that is done I can go back to sleep if I want, but generally I have so much energy I just keep going with my day.
Stick To A Schedule
I have a daughter in high school, so during the school year I often give her a ride. We have our morning schedule down to a science, and the repetition helps me stay on track. We get up at the same time and while she gets ready I get a little work done on the computer. Before I drop her off we stop at the Kum & Go® that is a few blocks from our house. Whether I need to fill the car up with gas, or just grab a pick-me-up to keep me going throughout the day, this is a quick and easy stop. Plus, I love their rewards program!
My favorite thing to pick up is Dunkin’ Donuts® Iced Coffee. I don’t have time to sit in a drive through, but I love having a delicious coffee while I work. My favorite flavor is mocha, but it also comes in French Vanilla, Original, and Espresso. I found these back by the drinks, and in a cooler towards the front.
Plan It Out
Have you ever heard the saying “Those who fail to plan, plan to fail”? I would be lost without my planner! I use it to track and structure everything in my life, including my morning routine. The main points to my routine are get ready, clean the bathroom, grab some breakfast and my drink, then go over my planner for the day. I have found a habit tracker in my planner helps to keep me accountable to this routine, and today I am sharing the planner stickers I use. Just click the image below to download the printable version. Print them out on some sticker paper, then cut with scissors (or a cutting machine if you have one. Grab the cut file here).
If you work from home, or just struggle with time management and productivity in general, I hope this gives you some inspiration to start your own morning routine. When you grab a Dunkin’ Donuts® Iced Coffee don’t forget to sign up for the Kum & Go® rewards program where every dollar you spend earns you points towards free food, drinks, and fuel discounts. Which flavor are you going to try?
