Thank you to all of my readers who bore with my during October with the daily posts, and daily notifications in your inbox! The 31 Day Challenge was grueling, but one of the best experiences I have had since I started this blog.
Doing the challenge made me realize a few things. The biggest was that I was much more productive having a razor sharp focus. My challenge was learning to be positive, so when I was writing about just that topic, my mind wasn’t so busy frantically trying to think of what to write. As I mulled this over I started to realize that a lack of focus is an issue in most areas of my life.
I have a lot of hobbies. If I don’t currently do something, I have probably tried it in the past. I also have a lot of jobs. I am a hairstylist, blogger, freelance writer, photographer, and I own my own essential oils business. Did I mention that I also homeschool, volunteer with Compassion International, and have several hobbies I enjoy on the side? I make jewelry (which was briefly ANOTHER business), I crochet, play guitar, read, cook, and even do a little sewing. I never have an issue with boredom.
I have a lot of passions and interests, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but what I struggle with is finding focus in the chaos. What is my niche? Where is my voice, and what is it saying?
I don’t have it all figured out, but I do know that it is time to clean up this blog. There wont be a huge change in appearance or content, but I am going to hone my content down to this central theme: making a happy home for an imperfect life.
Sometimes I feel like there is an expectation on Christian moms and wives. You stay at home, you decorate your beautiful home immaculately, your husband has a great career, you watch your budget, but its so you can afford to take the family on a lavish vacation, and your kids might be homeschooled but they excel in every sport and activity. Well, that isn’t my life and I suspect not many others can relate to that either. Whether you live in a beautiful home or an apartment, or your husband is an attorney or a telemarketer, it really doesn’t matter in the scheme of fulfilling our God-given calling as wives, mothers, and homemakers.
So wherever you are at in your journey, I hope you will find this change refreshing and follow along with me as I find my focus.
