I think if most of us are honest we would say that keeping our homes clean and in order is a constant battle. Whether we are dealing with little ones at home who demand our attention, working outside the home with little time to devote to cleaning, or just plain and simply not liking to clean – it can be a challenge.
I don’t LOVE to clean, or anything like that, but I LOVE living in a clean, organized space. It is essential for my space to be clutter-free in order for my mind to be quiet. So whether I enjoy it or not, cleaning is a priority for me.
Sticking to a strict cleaning schedule has made my life SO much easier, I just have to share it with you. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, and feeling like I am constantly overhauling the house, I stick to a schedule and just maintain the level of order and cleanliness. Sure, once or twice a year I do a major deep clean and declutter, but not every single week like I was doing.
I use the Clean Mama daily cleaning plan for my schedule. Mondays are bathrooms, Tuesday dusting, Wednesday vacuuming, Thursday mopping, Friday catch up, and Saturday wash sheets. I even got her cute little printable stickers to chart the days in my planner.
The most important part of having a plan like this, is making sure you get that one task done before you move into anything else. It can be tempting to run the vacuum around in the living room before you clean the bathrooms, but that can easily get you off track. Sure, I do a daily “neaten” in all of my rooms, but my daily task takes priority. After you stick to a schedule for a while you will start to notice that you move through them faster, because they aren’t that dirty! Before I started this plan I couldn’t tell you the last time every surface in my house was dusted, but now the most I go in between is a week, so I can zip through really fast because it doesn’t require any elbow grease.
I don’t have any strict rules for myself regarding a daily cleaning plan, other than just getting the task done. Some weeks I do more deep cleaning in the bathroom, and some weeks I just zip through the basics and move on.
I will delve a little deeper into how I do each task next week as we move through each day. So, for today, find a cleaning schedule you want to follow, and jot it down on your calendar!
