“The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained in sudden flight but, they while their companions slept, they were toiling upwards in the night.” -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Many people start the new year with expectation and hope, but maybe that isn’t the case for you. Maybe you have already broken your new year’s resolutions, or maybe you are just broken.
After the flurry of resolutions and good intentions swirl around, it can be easy to retreat into defeat and despair, but now is the time to pull yourself up by the boot straps and resolve that 2015 WILL be different.
The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. – Proverbs 18:10
If you are feeling overwhelmed and out of sync, take a look at what is holding priority in your life. Your relationship with God should be your top priority, and if it’s not, everything else will be out of whack too.
“You are not a victim. No matter what you have been through, you’re still here. You may have been challenged, hurt, betrayed, beaten, and discouraged, but nothing has defeated you. You are still here! You have been delayed but not denied. You are not a victim, you are a victor. You have a history of victory.”
― Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience
No matter what has happened, don’t allow yourself to act like a victim. Its so easy to fall into this trap when it feels like no one is acknowledging our hurt, but the truth is, the only person that victim thinking affects is you.
O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”
For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. – 1 Corinthians 15:55 NLT
We are not victims! We have victory even over death itself! So how silly is it to wallow in defeat over problems that are DEFINITELY less powerful.
I often tell my daughter, “Remember that you are the daughter of a KING, and don’t let anyone treat you as less.”
And, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” – 2 Corinthians 6:18
Your birthright has been paid for in blood and not only does that free you from being a victim to others, it gives you the responsibility of behaving in a manner becoming of your spiritual family. You have an obligation and priviledge. We have all been given a job to do while we are here on this earth, so get busy figuring out what it is and getting it done!
God has already fought and won this battle for you.
Tomorrow is a new day. Be encouraged and determined to use the rest of this year finding and fulfilling your God-given purpose.
